Description

The Liquiform Group, along with KHS, introduce the industry’s first rotary machine based on its breakthrough forming and filling manufacturing technology. The machine, manufactured by licensee KHS GmbH, known as FormFill, will be introduced into commercial operation in 2021 to produce 0.5-L to 1.0-L polyethylene terephthalate (PET) water bottles.

The technology works by simultaneously forming and filling containers in a single step using the liquid product to form a rigid plastic container. By the elimination of high-pressure compressed air, it reduces energy consumption, space requirements, equipment, maintenance, and service costs. It also eliminates the need to handle, store, and transport empty bottles.

After two years of development work, KHS designed a 12-station rotary unit with output of 24,000 bottles/hr. The technology is also adaptable for liquid soap and laundry detergent, industrial fluids, and a range of hot-fill applications. Compared to Bloc Systems, the system takes 40 percent less space and consumes up to 60 percent less energy.  The time saved by the form/fill wheel permits the capping process to be integrated into the system. Furthermore, improved embossing capabilities are possible which delivers a premium look and enhanced shelf appeal.
