Description

Although 46% of plastic waste in Germany is recycled, the use rate of post-consumer waste is only 5.6% (BMU, 2019). This usage rate is probably partly due to quality defects in the previously recycled materials. Global players also have reservations about using these materials due to the grey color, low PCR availability, and the high prices. For this reason, the safe, flexible, and economical use of recycled materials to produce cosmetic packaging in the field of extrusion blow moulding is the focus for the ReCo3 technology. The "ReCo3 bottle" is also 100% recyclable so that it can be returned to the material cycle.

To better understand the processing of PCR materials on extrusion blow moulding, a trial plan was performed with different 1-Layer (Mono) and 3-Layer (ReCo3) bottles made with different moulds and different PCR materials. In the presentation, many of the challenges that come with processing PCR materials are described, and the advantages of ReCo Technology to overcome these challenges are presented. Results show that it is possible to include post-consumer recycled materials on cosmetic products, and still offer customers a safe and appealing package.
